Robert John Kenig

February 19, 1963 — March 3, 2020

It is with heavy hearts & immense regret that we announce the loss of our dearest Rob on March 3, 2020 in Victoria Hospice, BC. Left to grieve are his partner, Deborah Ryder (& their dogs Alex & Avah), his mother-in-law Wanda Ryder, step father Don Pressey along with many friends & collegues. Rob was predeceased by his young mother, Mira, in the early 1970's which was a source of deep sorrow for him. He was known to her & Don by 'their Bobby'. Robert John Kenig was born in Toronto on Feb 19, 1963. After the death of his beloved mother, Rob attended boarding schools in southern Ontario & later graduated from Ryerson Polytechnic University with a Degree of Commerce in hospitality & tourism management. As well, Rob received his Red Seal chef training at the Brown's Institute & did his practicum at the Apple Restaurant in Toronto where the chef also worked on the Mariposa Bell. This tourist vessel was owned by Don Pressey & Rob loved his school year summers aboard where he had many fond memories. In 2002, Rob moved to Whitehorse, YT where he met Deb & after that worked in many locations across BC - most notably in Cranbrook. Rob always returned to their lovely Slocan Valley home & farm near Nelson, BC.
Robert was a smart, witty, generous, hard working man - always quick to help & share a glass of bubbly! Rob was able to donate his corneas giving the gift of sight so will continue his journey thru the eyes of others. What 'insight' & humourous new stories he would love to tell. But for now, his messages will have to be carried to us on the wind and in our thoughts & dreams. We have many doctors & nurses to thank from the Nelson, Trail, Kelowna, & Royal Jubilee hospitals along with home care givers. Lastly, our huge sense of gratitude & appreciation to the Victoria Hospice (Richmond Pavillion) where he was lovingly well cared for in his final days by their staff & volunteers. Rob fought a long courageous battle - bravely facing many painful situations that most will never comprehend nor hopefully ever have to endure. Rob's 'mind over matter' approach was difficult to maintain at the end of his life but it still gives faith that 'death & life are in the power of the tongue'. We must remember to positively speak our future into existence. In Robert's memory, please donate or volunteer at your local hospice or palliative care facility. They provide a very necessary service for all of our communities. May His Memory Be For a Blessing. God's speed & 'wellness' - until we meet again - xxoo. 'AND WHEN THE EARTH SHALL CLAIM OUR LIMBS - THEN SHALL WE TRULY DANCE'.
