Robert Stanley Nykolaishen

August 26, 1943 — April 1, 2017

Peacefully at home with his family by his side, Bob passed away April 1, 2017. Bob is survived by his Wife Wendy, sons Rob (Lisa), Steven, and granddaughter Isla and sisters Victoria (Nick) and Elizabeth. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Cassie Nykolaishen and sister Lena (Michael) Shewchuk. Bob was born August 26, 1943 in Ethelbert MB, an area which he fondly recalled through many stories of life on the farm in the Zoria area. Bob began his over 35 year banking career with CIBC in Dauphin Manitoba. He accepted many transfers within Manitoba before he and Wendy ventured off to Thunderbay Ontario. From there they moved to St. Georges, Grenada, followed by Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Bob and Wendy returned to Manitoba for many years where they raised their family, moving from Winnipeg to Flin Flon and back again. After a short stint in Regina, SK they returned to Winnipeg before retiring from the bank in 2000. After retirement, Bob, along with fellow CIBC retirees Thor and Bruce made several canoe trips on Manitoba lakes where they had the greatest time. Bob's favourite pastime was nature photography. From eagles in Brackendale, BC to grizzly bears in Knight Inlet, BC as well on His and Wendy's many adventures. Bob and Wendy purchased an RV, which over the years took them across Canada and the Southern US from San Diego California to Key West Florida. In 2009, Bob and Wendy moved to Victoria, BC to be closer to their children where they enjoyed making more happy memories. Bob was a pushover when it came to the family dogs. Every dog knew to go to him for treats and table scraps, even though he knew he wasn't to give them anything. He especially loved to share the end of his ice cream cone with them.
Bob had a very special relationship with his "princess" Isla. He always found the energy to slide down all the slides, climb the climbing wall and swing with her at the playground. He imparted on her his love of photography, for which he was often the subject. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation.
