Robert Paul Young was born on Dec 31, 1963 in Victoria B.C. at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He grew up in Victoria and loved the city for his whole life.


Robert had a sucessful hairdressing career in both California and Victoria for over 25 years. A talented colorist and stylist, he loved the interactions with his devoted clients. Later, he transitioned into the retail hardware industry and worked at Hudsons Bay.

He was well loved by his co-workers, and would always strive to make others realize their true potential.

Robert was a generous, positive, upbeat person who was always willing to help others. He had a larger than life personality and boundless energy and enthusiasm. His love of cooking always resulted in spectacular gourmet dinners and desserts, specifically cakes and pastries, which he loved the most. His beloved dogs Baby, Caesar, Sophie, Amira and Frida always gave him much joy and were an important part of his life. Robert also had a special love for renovations, home improvement, gardening, painting, crafts, collectibles, antiques and Coronation Street.


Robert was married to his beloved husband David Hoover for over 24 years. He was also close to his cousins Angela Chen and Cheryl Hitchmough, his aunt Sylvia Hitchmough and his grandmother Emily Jane Burrows who was like a second mother to him.


Robert will be remembered for his zest for life, his love of humor, his creativity, his infectious laugh and his love and devotion to his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, cousin, nephew, grandson, son-in-law, brother-in-law and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


Robert passed away peacefully surrounded by his friends and family on Aug 14 2023, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Even through his illness he maintained his sense of humor and passion for life. He will forever be missed by his husband David and his extended family and friends.
