Bob was born in Victoria BC, raised in Metchosin and loved living on “the rock”. He was loyal to his friends( playing a round of golf with his bestie JR) to his family and dedicated his life to supporting them and to the company he worked for, Kinetic Construction under the original ownership of the Gyles/ Chalecki Families for his whole married life. He loved being a part of the company that was so family focused. Bob worked on countless projects but most recently the Sidney firehall, dockyard and university. Bob was truly part of the Kinetic family and He highly regarded his colleagues and was always willing to share his vast knowledge and help anyone out. He had an uncommon work ethic and said no job was beneath him. Like his Dad he was a salt of the earth guy and loved to make people laugh. Bob courageously endured many surgeries and treatment fighting cancer and constantly sang the praises of his oncology team and the nurses at the cancer clinic, wearing a Hawaiian shirt ( his collection of which he was very proud of) each treatment day to bring a smile to their faces. He was determined to not let the cancer take his life and leave his family. It didn’t. His greatest legacy though was in his own family and helping to father countless children as an “uncle” with the ministry of children and family for over 27 years. His own father having grown up in foster care and torn from his family and culture instilled a desire in both him and Tracy to help nurture children in that situation and reconnect them the best they could.
A private celebration of life will be held for Bob’s Collegues, close friends and family on May 6 at 2pm. Please text his daughter Olivia for address. 250-532-3674. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Cancer Clinic or help someone out who needs you. Bob lived by the saying “what goes around comes around” and he continually deposited into that karma bank. He is missed and loved. Wear a colourful Hawaiian shirt in honour of him.
