Brian Wasson

June 11, 1947 — December 9, 2021

ROBERT BRIAN WASSON June 11th, 1947 – December 9th, 2021 Brian was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and lived there until he was 12 years old when his family moved to the neighbouring community of Kennebecasis Park/Rothesay. Brian was the second of three children born to Charles Estey Wasson (Charlie) and Katherine Theresa Wasson, nee Sullivan (Kay). His brother David was 7 years older than Brian, and his sister Edyth (Edye), two years younger. Brian was predeceased by his parents and his brother; his sister Edye lives with her husband, Jim McAfee, in Oakville, Ontario. Other surviving family members include his nephew, Andrew McAfee, niece Kate (McAfee) Matchett, 3 grand nieces and 1 grand nephew. Brian completed high school in Rothesay and graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. Soon after graduation he relocated to Toronto where he lived for a few years until he moved to Northern Alberta where he worked periodically in isolated communities earning funds to finance his travel dreams to Europe and Mexico. After a few years of fulfilling his wanderlust tendencies, he decided a more “fixed address” would be a good thing and he moved to Victoria, B.C. where he joined Canada Post in 1978. Brian remained with Canada Post for 25 years, retiring in 2003. In the early mid-1980's Brian and Susie Filion met, and by 1988 they were officially a “couple”. During their 33 years together they enjoyed much witty conversation, overseas travel, and long walks. Brian loved Victoria and its surrounding beauty. He was an avid reader, and a unique individual. He followed current affairs closely and was typically well informed about the “latest political situation”, be it local, provincial, federal or international. Throughout his final 2 year long journey with cancer Susie was his “rock of support” - without her his final months would have been much more challenging. Brian chose to say goodbye by accessing MAiD. He will be sorely missed, but all who loved him are glad that he is now at peace.
