MAJOR RONALD FRASER FERRIE Royal Canadian Signals Corps (Retd) Surrounded by family and pets, Ron died peacefully at home, on September 24, 2014. Predeceased on July 25, 2013 by Emmy, his wife of 68 years. He leaves behind, his children, Heather (Phil), Ian (Jeannie), Kate Reston (Ian) and, grandchildren, Kristine (son Jakob), Johanna, Colin, Brodie, Peter, and Rons sister, Betty Smith, niece Heather Sloat, nephew Sean Sloat.Born in Calgary, February 10, 1920, Ron graduated from Crescent Heights High, where he joined the Militia, then began full military service at the start of WWII. He trained in Kingston ON, then Britain, landing in France three days after D-Day. Following the Liberation of Holland, he married Emmy in Utrecht. Ron served until 1969, a military career which included postings throughout Canada, Germany, Holland and the Middle East, as a UN Truce Observer. He earned a B.A. from Queens University, had a second career in Applied Sciences at Queens, retiring in 1985, then moving to Victoria. Ron was an active volunteer with many organizations, on the Board of the Victoria Symphony, member of Probus, and symphony supporter with Emmy. We will remember Rons passion for family, pets, music & opera, his wonderful sense of humour & story-telling, gardening, beach dog walks, community service, and politics.Heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care provided by Nina Nillo, Dr. Ted Rosenberg and staff, Victoria Hospice and Broadmead Lodge. A Celebration of Life will be on October 18, 2014 at 2pm, at Cadboro Bay United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice Society, or charity of choice.
