Ronald Victor William Morriss

September 9, 1919 — September 26, 2016

Grateful for a long life well lived, Dad passed away in his sleep in the small hours of September 26, 2016 in his 98th year. Pre-deceased by his beloved wife Anne (nee Larochelle) and by his only sister Nan Beck. Left to mourn his passing are his son, Randy, daughter-in-law Agnes, grandson Alex, grand daughter-in-law Maki, and great-granddaughter Maya. Born in Bristol, England on September 9, 1919, he came to Canada as a young boy in 1923. A graduate of the Kingston Collegiate Institute, he joined the RCAF in 1938 and served throughout the war as flight crew on Halifax and Canso aircraft including an operational tour with Coastal Command in Iceland. After the war he joined Ontario Hydro during the building of the hydro power dam at Rolphton, Ontario. He worked in the company's security division at increasing levels of responsibility in Toronto and Niagara Region until his retirement in 1980. A man of many talents, Dad built boats, a log cottage that still stands along the shores of the Ottawa River, a gift shop and restaurant near Rolphton, and a retirement home on Pigeon Lake, Ontario. A dedicated amateur golfer, for most of his retirement years Dad played 9 holes every morning throughout the season but always made it back in time for breakfast with Mum. Only failing eyesight ended his early mornings on the links. Soon after Mum passed away in 2010, Dad moved to Nanaimo, BC to be closer to his remaining family where he enjoyed more than five years in an independent living suite at the Origin at Longwood. Most recently, he was a resident of the Veterans' Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria, BC. Always a gentleman, Dad was also a gentle man. So until we meet again Dad, go in peace and please give Mum a kiss from all of us.
Cremation entrusted to Earth's Option, Victoria, BC. No service by request. Private interment in the family plot in Deep River, Ontario at a date to be determined. We would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Veterans' Lodge at Broadmead for the compassionate care that they provided to Dad throughout his time at the Lodge. A special thanks also to Dr. Darcel for his skill and compassion particularly as the end drew near.
