Sharon Doherty was born in Vancouver, B.C. on October 8, 1942 to Benard and Elenor Rose Doherty, and she grew up in Victoria, BC. She and her sister Deirdre (Andy) enjoyed their childhood together and especially favoured picnics with their family on the little islands around Vancouver Island. In 1962 Sharon married and began a family of her own with whom she carried on the tradition of frequent family picnics at the beach. Her children Teresa, Michelle (Dale), Sandra (Peggy), and William recall a home filled with ever and ongoing craft projects that were Sharons artistic expression and life-long hobbies. Sharon shared in the joys of the births of her nine grandchildren, Brett (Shannon), Benjamin (Tiffany), Shawn, Victoria (Callum), Breanna (Nick), Nicole (Matt), Camron (Abby), Duncan, Ross and recently welcomed her two great-grandchildren, Mya and Maximus. Ever industrious, Sharon returned to school and spent her last 10 working years in and around Victoria and as a Beacon Community Home Care worker giving assistance and comfort to others. When she wasnt caring for others, or attending fireworks, or parades, she indulged in her love of quilting with her dear friends at the Greater Victoria Quilt Guild. Sharon also leaves behind her rock, and ever-present best friend, Pauline Scherr, with whom she shared a 50 year bond of love and caring that held to Sharons very last moments. Sharon was eternally grateful for Paulines friendship and strength, as is Sharons family. The last left behind is Sharons furry companion of the last 7 years, Rascal the cat, who will certainly miss her attention. Sharon and her family would like to thank the Victoria Hospice for the excellent care and making her final weeks as comfortable as anyone could ask. In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted to the Victoria Hospice Foundation. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at St.Patricks Parish, 2060 Haultain Street.
