Sharon Barbara Logan

February 24, 1938 — August 22, 2022

Sharon Logan (Bailey) will seem mythical to anyone who didn’t know her. She’s a legend who lived an unconventional, unbelievable life until her passing on Aug, 22.

From humble beginnings in 1938, she was the first daughter of Pearl (McNair) and Bridge Bailey in Chilliwack, B.C.  Her dad was a dairy farmer, logger, hunting guide and her mother was a school teacher and homemaker.  At home Sharon helped her dad logging with the big horses. She built her legacy in Victoria as a philanthropist, especially to the Salvation Army, Canadian Diabetes Association, and JDRF. Starting in an era where it was unusual for a single woman to be granted a mortgage. She built Sharon Logan Property Management in Victoria, owning multiple character homes and employing three other people. She was an empathic housing provider, working to provide affordable housing for people and their animals.

Throughout her 84 years, Sharon’s passions included her pets, ranging from horses, Holstein cattle and a raccoon, to her beloved dogs, Whiskey and Mindy; convertible cars, being notable from 1970 onwards for her red 442 with the cream top down, ample thigh showing, and blonde hair blowing in the wind; antiques, engaging in literal digging in the dirt and dealing from her store once on Burnside Rd.; travel, including visiting China with her friend Georgina Joe, multiple trips to Hawaii and Mexico with partners and family, the UK with her Ryder Lake gal pals, France with her granddaughter, and Costa Rica with her daughter and her brother; and her blood and found families, being a generous hostess albeit questionable cook.

Sharon married Donald Logan in 1996. He passed away in April 2021, days after their 25th anniversary. She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Jim Polutnik); grandchildren Kyla (Matt Belvedere), Bridgeman, great-grandchildren Charlie and Alice; her stepchildren Gordie and Jodi; stepgrandchildren Michael, Emma, Kiera, Richelle, and Darcy; her siblings Dalyn Sexsmith, Diane (Al Warner) & Gregg Bailey; ex-husband and friend, Roger Garden. That is not to mention the generations of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends she has left behind. As her former partner, the late Keith Ince, used to say in a song "all her exes come for breakfast”. He especially meant the late Vern Umphrey.

From Chilliwack’s 1950 May Queen to teenage mother, runaway to caring daughter, uninhibited and ardent lover to 35 years employed in the provincial government, wild child to doting grandma, there are countless contradictions that made Sharon interesting and lovable. Sharon gave everyone a chance, treated everyone as an equal. She never judged a person based on their circumstances. At times in her life she was known for her attitude, compassion, hustle, legs, and generosity. The stories of Sharon add up to more than a single life. She was our matriarch and we’ll honour her.
