Shawn Trevor Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shawn Trevor Smith on August 19, 2023, in Victoria, British Columbia. Shawn was born on April 2, 1972, in Pointe Claire, Quebec to Elaine Kiesel and Trevor Smith. He was the beloved husband of Karen Coombes and the step-son of John McArthur.

Shawn was a loving brother to Robin Smith (Don St. Germain) and Marcus Smith. He was a caring uncle to Kersten Smith and Quinten St. Germain, and a beloved son-in-law to Dave and Carla Coombes, and brother-in-law to Tim Coombes (Debra Coombes).

Shawn was an avid and talented artist who enjoyed exploring all mediums and forms of art. His favourite creative outlet was building and carving many things that inspired him, but especially military planes and vehicles. He also had a love of nature, particularly watching and photographing birds, insects and other "critters". He loved his landscaping job at Island Earth, and was recently assigned to a position at the Victoria Airport that allowed him to connect with nature and enthusiastically watch the aircraft he loved, everyday.

Shawn was a kind and gentle soul who was always willing to support family and friends with a listening ear or lending a helping hand. He had a way of connecting with people in a genuine way that left a lasting impression.  He was a devoted husband and a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Shawn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, including his loyal cat companion, Amiga. He will be fondly remembered by his infectious smile and unmistakable laugh, for his kind heart, his gentle spirit, and his passion for art and nature.

A private gathering of family and close friends will be held to celebrate Shawn's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
