Sherry Lynn Eustace, nee MacDonald, of Victoria, passed away on July 16, 2020 after bravely battling cancer. She leaves behind her loving son Thomas, daughter-in-law Melissa âMel' Kelly and granddaughter Quinn; brother Wayne MacDonald of Dunham, Quebec; sisters Sandragail Dunn of Ghent, New York, Dawn (Stewart) Jenkinson of Calgary, Alberta and Dene MacDonald of Calgary, Alberta. She will be immeasurably missed by her extended family and many friends. Sherry was born in Montreal, Quebec to Allison Wayne MacDonald and Hughanna Blanche Eliza Nixon on September 28, 1951. She attended Cowansville High School, graduating in 1969.
She went on to earn a Registered Nursing degree in Montreal, working as a nurse for almost 50 years in Moncton, New Brunswick, Mission (Military Nursing Officer) and Victoria, British Columbia. Sherry loved quilting. She first learned to quilt in her twenties in New Brunswick, from her grandmother MacDonald's sister. She made quilts for family, friends, and family of friends, providing many with a handmade heirloom to cherish and pass down through generations. Sherry's coworkers recall her strong work ethic and can-do attitude. She was always ready to tackle tasks big or small, armed with a sly smile and her trademark quick wit. She was well known for motivating those around her to jump in with both feet, and work to their full potential.
She was a core member of the Victoria women's hockey team "The Hockey Bags," a group that developed close friendships on and off the ice. She rarely missed a game or event, and she was determined to keep up with women years her junior. Always one to take on additional roles, she eventually became the team's treasurer.
Through the support of friends, she developed a passion for CrossFit and power lifting. Once she set her mind to it she was a force to be reckoned with, breaking numerous Provincial records in her age and weight classes. Her calm, quiet demeanour hid a fierce competitor.
Of all the roles Sherry played, she was most proud of being a mother and grandmother. She was known for her kind and generous nature, and is remembered as an inspiration by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, Sherry asked that donations be made to the Red Cross. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
