After a year of many challenges, dad passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children. He was predeceased by his wife Irene, his parents Elizabeth Stanton MacKinnon & Pipe Major Stephen MacKinnon, and brothers Neil and Donald. He is survived by his children, Stewart (Betty Ann), Robert (Tracy), Ian (Roma), Heather (David) Schoeman, and many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stephen was born and raised in the Montreal suburb of St. Lambert. In 1949 he headed west to Alberta, residing in various locations including Calgary, Edmonton, St. Albert and Fort McMurray. In 1979, he moved to the coast, eventually settling in Victoria, where he remained for the last 37 years. Dad loved his road trips, travelling all over North America in his numerous camper vans, with his favourite means of travel being his VW Westfalias. He always enjoyed being the local tour guide for friends and family and always took the "scenic route", like it or not. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly. May your final journey be the best road trip yet dad. A celebration of life will be held on September 16th - location TBA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rene Weir, for the years of care and constant negotiations with dad. His respect for you immense.
