It is with immense sadness we announce the loss of Susanne French on February 20, 2026. After several years of struggling with debilitating illness she passed away on her own terms, at home, surrounded by her family, overlooking the Gorge waterway. The sun deck door open to welcome her to the next adventure.
Susanne Elisabeth Karin French, née Ullrich, was born May 15, 1957, in Vancouver, Canada, to parents Rolf and Brigitte Ullrich, new immigrants to Canada. As a young child she moved with her family to Victoria. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1975, while working weekends at the family-owned Robin Hood Motel. After graduating, Susanne worked for the Teacher’s Credit Union. This job brought her back to Vancouver. There she supervised the introduction of automated bank machines in all branches. She married her first husband David Bremner in 1980 but separated six years later. They divorced in 1989.
Susanne moved back to Victoria, earned her real estate license and worked at Century 21. Susanne married Kenton French on July 7, 1990. They went on to have a beautiful 35-year marriage and raise two sons. As she started her own family, Susanne became involved with her father’s business and managed the Robin Hood Motel and two other family properties for 24 years. She retired from the Motel but continued to manage other family interests almost up until her passing. In their retirement, Susanne and Kenton enjoyed travelling together, hosting family and friends for dinner, and enjoying a glass of wine. They moved to live along the Gorge Waterway, so Susanne could enjoy the water view and stunning sunsets during the last years of her life.
Susanne is survived by her loving husband Kenton French, and their two sons Nicholas (Caitlyn), and Alexander (Sarah); her sisters Annette (Josef) and Stefanie (Timothy) and brother Karl (Elizabeth); and her seven beloved nieces and nephew.
Susanne was a warm, charismatic, fun-loving soul. She was a loyal friend and the heart of her family. She danced at every opportunity. She was loved and is missed.
