It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Suzy Valerie Labelle (age 58) on the evening of Friday September 25th, 2020 in Victoria, BC. Suzy passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Suzy was born in Bruges, Belgium on February 17, 1962. She immigrated to Canada with her family settling in Victoria, BC with her Mother Ann Schrage, and stepfather Case Schrage. The Schrages were married in Victoria and raised 2 beautiful daughters, Suzy and Micheline.
Suzy loved her garden and the great outdoors. She loved being in nature, going on long walks and exploring Vancouver Island. Hosting or attending functions, gathering with friends, and supporting others were some of her many passions. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way, and her door was always open, friends always felt welcome, secure, and safe, as if in a second home.
Suzy's work life started as a file clerk with the BC Provincial Government 39 years ago. She worked with pride in various Ministries throughout her advancement in the public sector. She enjoyed going to work, she only just wished it were not so early every morning! She had a knack for solving problems and always stood up for what she believed in. She helped co-workers and union members solve their problems, never sugar coating the truth, even if it was hard to take, and then always came up with solutions that worked for all.
Suzy had a determined and steadfast dedication to anyone that requested her guidance, direction, or assistance. She became a union representative as a Shop Steward for the BCGEU (BC Government Employees Union) early in her career. She provided unselfish union service, providing many countless hours of assistance often on her own time, then had to catch up her own work after hours without compensation. She had a fierce loyalty to her everyone and touched so many hearts. Many would not have gotten through their issues without her spirited representation, guidance, and unwavering support. We will all miss her sunny smile, her great sense of humour, and her caring and loving manner.
Suzy is survived by her parents Ann and Case Schrage, her sister Micheline, her loving son and biggest pride and joy Josh; her very close friends Cathy, Danielle, Charlotte, Stephen, Nicole, Paul, Ashley, Jamie, Kristine; as well as Josh's friends Adam, Branden, Mitch, Rowan, and Dan.
As per Suzy's wishes, her body will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to the pandemic.
