HAGGART, TERESA ANNE (February 2, 1951 - June 15, 2023)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Teri. She passed away peacefully with family and loved ones by her side on June 15th at 72. She was a loving mother, sister, daughter and partner.
Born February 2, 1951, Teri had lived her entire life in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. She studied Education at UVIC and was a dedicated elementary school teacher and librarian for over 30 years, spending most of her career at Cordova Bay Elementary. Teri was a devoted single mother who worked hard to create a wonderful life for her daughter, Andra.
Life’s simplest pleasures brought great joy to Teri. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, genealogy, choir and music, reading, and walking through her Fairfield neighbourhood. She had a love and respect for all animals, and enjoyed riding and spending time around horses. Her garden and home were of great pride to her, and she also volunteered at the Government House gardens and archives. She enjoyed spending time with her family, often meeting three generations of women for tea time every Sunday, and more recently, having ‘baby therapy’ with her young grandson, Simon. She was kind, loving and generous, demonstrated through her dedication to her family and friends over the years. She had an inquisitive mind, with the curiosity and adventurous nature of a child. Teri’s gentle and loving spirit touched everyone. Her radiant smile and warm kindness will live on in her family, whom she loved unconditionally. Through her interest in genealogy, she became acquainted with many second cousins around the globe. ‘Haggie’ was a great friend and confidant, and knew many of her closest friends for over 50 years.
Teri is reunited with her late parents, Betty and Jim, and her sister, Barbie. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Andra (Max), her grandson, Simon, her partner, Peter, her sisters, Margaret (Murray) and Cathy (Kim), and many loving nieces and nephews.
During Teri’s 6-year journey through ovarian cancer, she faced it with grace, courage, and stoic strength to the very end. She made the best of her life, despite a rigorous treatment and therapy schedule. Her loved ones wish to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the BC Cancer Agency, the Royal Jubilee Hospital’s 4S Unit, Dr. Nielsen, Dr. Maskey, Dr. Parmar, Dr. Fiona Zheng, Drs. Andrea, Sheri, Maria and Katia of Hawthorn Clinic, Randy Thompson, and countless other professionals who contributed to her care and quality of life over those challenging years.
Teri was laid to rest in the Woodlands at the Royal Oak Burial Park on June 21st, close to her sister, Barbie. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Ovarian Cancer Society, Operation Smile Canada or the Victoria Cat Rescue in her honour.
We love and miss you. You are gone far too soon, will be forever loved, and never forgotten. Rest well and peacefully.
