Thomas "Tom" Widdowson was an endearing man with a wonderful sense of humour. He received his doctorate in biology from UBC, and spent his life researching and teaching about seaweeds in New Zealand, Hong Kong, California, and British Columbia. A major preoccupation involved trying to please his wife Ann, who died in 2016. Tom's interests were wide, but he tremendously enjoyed being in nature, reading, and discussing politics. He lived until his final year on his West Saanich Road acreage caring for a large garden and his cats. A celebration of his life will occur at his home in Victoria on Saturday, July 13, 2024, and his ashes will be scattered where he felt most at home - on Read Island. He is survived by his daughters Katherine and Frances, and his partner Juliet. In lieu of flowers, please free to plant a tree in his honour.
