Verna (nee Barclay) Sievi passed away on June 19, 2022. She was born in Vancouver on March 16,1931.
Verna married her first husband, Joseph Albert, and emigrated to the USA. They moved to California with four young children: Daniel, Glenda, Curtis, and Deborah. Having only fifty dollars, a car, and a tent trailer, they camped on the beach in Del Mar for several weeks until Joseph got a job in San Diego. The California Dream came true for them.
Verna had several jobs, such as, Real Estate Agent and Elementary School Worker. One of her most memorable jobs was in a pawn shop where she was fired after three days for “being too nice”.
She married Jack Sievi in the mid-seventies and gained a lovely step-daughter, named Carol.
Verna and Jack lived in San Diego, Las Vegas, and Bellingham. In addition, she’s the proud grandmother of, Curt’s children, David and Kendall Albert. Also, she’s a great-grandmother of seven.
Verna had a green thumb and excelled at reviving plants that looked beyond saving. Also, she loved animals. Her son, Dan, inherited this love of animals and at one point, had “rescued” 6 dogs, 6 cats, 12 chickens, and many land turtles. It was definitely a full house!
She came to Victoria from Bellingham, Washington, in 2014, after her daughter, Glenda, suddenly passed away. Verna loved living in Victoria because she made many new friends and met many wonderful people.
Thank you to the nurses and staff at Mt.St. Mary’s Hospital in Victoria, BC. You were always kind and generous despite being under stressful working conditions due to the pandemic.
Always ready with a smile, Verna had a “Pollyanna” approach by choosing to find the positive side of life. Verna you will live on in our hearts.
The date for the Memorial Service will be determined in the future.
