Vladimir (Dima) Poplavsky (January 5, 1926 to January 8, 2016) Born in Paris, France to Russian immigrants, Vladimir lived in both France and Italy before moving to North America in 1962. He tried out New York, Montreal and San Francisco before settling in Vancouver. He attended the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. In 1973, a car accident left his good friend, Dorothy Boond, in a comma for nine months. He then spent the next 26 years looking after her. Once Vladimir moved to Victoria in 1995, he started gathering a good circle of Russian friends. They were a great help when Dorothy passed in 2004. A free and adventurous spirit, he loved his many friends and gatherings at his house. It seemed that those he met were enchanted and became friends. His last party, celebrating his 90th birthday, was much anticipated and enjoyed by all. He will be missed by all those he leaves behind, especially his adopted granddaughter Maria Popova.
