WW II, RAF Navigator over Burma, Burma Bombers, Squadron 357. Born on January 13, 1919 in Raymond Alberta; Passed away in Victoria BC on January 3, 2015, after a brave fight with pneumonia. One of the greatest adventurers in wildlife conservation of his time, Ward received his M.Sc. in Forestry (1947) at Iowa State University, and PhD in Zoology (1955) at UBC. His career path led him to conducting research in the Arctic, and the Mackenzie Delta, before becoming the Superintendent of Game with the NWT government in Ft. Smith. He spent most of working career as the Regional Director of the Canadian Wildlife Service, based in Edmonton, with additional years in field work in wildlife conservation research in Malayas jungles, Kenyas remote regions, and Perus rain forest. His dry wit and vast knowledge on every subject will be missed by all. The twinkles in his eye always let us know when he was joking. His idealism and passion for wildlife and wild places never diminished. Ward was predeceased by his devoted wife Jane Barrett (Cowan) in 2012. He will be deeply missed by his three children, Hilarie Stevens, Ellen (Wynn) and Charles Stevens.
