Wendy Althea McDonald (nee Macleod) 1937 - 2005
Wendy died Dec. 5, 2005. She is survived by her beloved husband (Wallace) John, and daughters , Joan, Sheila and Ruth and their families.
Born in Montreal, she grew up in Halifax, Winnipeg and Saskatoon. In 1961 she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Sc. in Public Health Nursing, a career she pursued enthusiastically part time while raising her daughters.
In 1961, ten days after graduation, she married her dear John, moved to Ottawa for four years while he studied, then to Edmonton for the next 38 years where she raised her daughters, and enjoyed many connections to the music scene and the company of good friends.
She enthusiastically pursued her career in Public Health part time, working for the Victorian Order of Nurses and the City of Edmonton Public Health . She was a passionate advocate for women’s reproductive rights.
In 2003, she and John moved to the west coast to be near her family. She enjoyed music (piano, trombone and band) and books. Anytime she could spend in the quiet wilderness of nature was a joy. Her interest in civic affairs that led to membership in the Raging Grannies while she was in Edmonton continued in Victoria.
Her spirited, creative, and caring personality will be missed by her family and friends.
