Wilfrid Nadeau passed away on the night of July 14th 2016 at the age of 75 with his family by his side.
Born on March 30th 1941 in Saint-Sauveur Quebec, Wilfrid grew up in an orphanage from the ages of 5 to 16 years old. At 16, he started working as a maintenance man at the Ursulines Convent where he would begin his painting career. Wilfrid married Diane in 1971. The young couple moved to Victoria in 1976 to find work, to set roots, and to raise their growing family.
Wilfrid continued to paint until he retired at the age of 67. Being a mover and a shaker, he soon immersed himself with the Juan de Fuca 55+ Activity Center, a place we called his âsecond home'. There he enjoyed friends, cooking, cleaning, decorating, setting up, playing games, bar-tending, and even acting in the annual showsâ¦and he loved every minute of it. When he wasn't at the center, you could find Wilfrid spending time with his family, visiting friends and playing cards, lending a hand to whom ever needed one, and soaking up the sun at the beach, swimming at Matheson lake, or meandering a crowd to watch live performances throughout Victoria. Wilfrid will be remembered as a man who was always smiling and who was easy to be around.
Predeceased by his second daughter Renee, Wilfrid will be remembered by his four children Diane, Claude (Candice & Maxwell), Monique (Doug), and Etienne (Inese, Andre, and Domenik).
We would like to Thank the ER and ICU staff at VGH for attending to Wilfrid with kindness and efficiency. Your fast paced environments mixed with your ability to âsee' the patient and their family has positively impacted our family in more ways than one. Thank you to 7B and 4A at VGH. Wilfrid continuously raved about how wonderful Doctors, nurses, and student nurses, were to him. As family members, all of your actions reached our hearts and your commitment to Excellence came shining through. And finally, we also wish to Thank the impressive Nurses with Home & Community Care and Victoria Hospice for their attention to detail and for the time they spent âinvesting' in Wilfrid's care. As a family, our experience has been rich with the professionalism and genuine care we all received.
