Some would say he was a loner, an introvert or a recluse. He was, to a T, a nonconformist. But to those who were a part of his pack, he was a brilliant, quick-witted human who was just very careful of who he allowed in.
Bill fought for a long time, and passed peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital, surrounded by his chosen family. Bill found great comfort in his time spent with a small circle of dear friends and family. He loved his video chats with niece, Terri. We are deeply grateful for the expertise, kindness, and care he received from his oncologists, nurses, and all the medical professionals who supported him-you will always be remembered.
Bill is the loved son of late Wilfred (Bill) Baskett (2010) and Beatrice (nee Todd) Baskett (1987) and the youngest of 4 boys. Bill leaves behind his brothers Rick of Clinton, Alan (Lyn) of Milton and sister-in-law Shelley of Ingersoll. Bill was the much-loved uncle of Terri (Charles), Jessica (Bob), Stefany, Kendra (Jacob) and a great-uncle to Jacob and Erick. Bill was predeceased by his brother Ken and nephew Michael. Bill’s passing has left a deep void in the lives of Warren and Ed, who were like brothers to him, and by Cheri, who was the ‘sister he never had’.
Bill moved many years ago from Ontario to BC, eventually settling in Victoria.
Bill was a driver for BC Transit prior to his retirement. Earlier and with his deep passion for technology, Bill was information technology manager at Royal Roads Military College and an Independent IT Specialist. He taught himself electronics, using his newfound skills to help his friends repair their gadgets, and build circuit boards he had designed.
Bill appreciated all things nature. He loved hiking in East Sooke Park, conquering long walks, and leisurely taking photos of all the beauty surrounding him.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
For anyone wishing to celebrate Bill, donations can be made to Hospice Care.
In the end he decided “I like people after all.” We loved him.
