Black, William James Archibald Lieutenant Commander (Retd) April 18, 1923 June 1, 2014 We sadly announce the passing of Bill Black in Victoria BC on June 1st, 2014. Bill was born in Toronto and spent his childhood in Montreal. He joined the Navy during World War II serving for two decades. Bill went on to a career in University and City planning in Ottawa, then retiring in Victoria where he truly believed was the best place to live. There he remarried, rekindled old friendships and made new ones. Predeceased by his wife Jessie and survived by his brother Ronald. He leaves behind his three children, Pamela, Jamie (Lea), Alexander (Lucie) as well as his four grandchildren, Natasha, Alicia, William, and Devin. Bills presence filled a room. He will be remembered for his wit, engaging conversation, fearlessness, and dedication to family. He leaves very colourful memories. The family would like to thank the staff at Berwick House in Victoria. Bills life will be celebrated in a gathering of family and friends; at his request no service will be held. In lieu of flowers and those wishing to make donations in Bills memory may do so to the Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation.
