William Walter Warrener

December 25, 1947 — July 26, 2023

It is with deep sadness that the family of Bill Warrener announce his death on July 26, 2023 at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria BC.

William was born on December 25, 1947 in Pontiex, Saskatchewan, the son of Garth and Helen Warrener. He was also raised by his grandmother Jetta and often spoke with fondness for her.

He is survived by his wife Dee; son Luke, daughter-in-law Kaiti, granddaughter Mackenzie; son Ben, daughter-in-law Marissa; son David Striemer, daughter-in-law Kelly, grandchildren Jarren, Evan, Jack and Dylan; and by brother Greg, sister-in-law Mary, nieces Kate, Jackie, Megan, and nephew Bob.

Bill was predeceased by his much loved and missed sister Joanie who passed away September 10, 2014. Bill also considered Denise and her daughters, Brittany and Gillian as close family.

Bill was a man of great courage and strength. He became diabetic a short time after his mother's passing, when he was 10 years old and lived with its challenges all his life. His doctor told him he would not live past 21, and so not to waste time getting a university education. Following high school, Bill had a variety of occupations including land surveyor; rancher; owner/operator of welding business serving the oil fields; live-in child care counsellor; family and relationship counselling; supervision of Orenda Residential Family Treatment and Outreach Program.

Bill's first love in life was his family. He has always been very close to his sister Joan and brother Greg, and spent the last 39 years of his life adoring the sons he never believed he would have and pouring love on his precious granddaughter Mackenzie.

Bill also loved the succession of dogs he had, from Augie (who climbed ladders up oil rigs after him) to his adored wiener dog Pixel.

Bill also loved living aboard and cruising in his 60' sailboat, the Heliomare, exploring the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound with his family and friends for 9 years.

Over the last 15 years, Bill spent many enjoyable hours together with his best buddy Joel and their dogs.

Bill will be missed by so many who remember his infectious laugh and endless positivity. Despite what the early doctors said, he lived a full and happy life with his final words before surgery being “I’ve been very lucky”.

The Celebration of Life for William Warrener will be held from 1pm-4pm on Saturday September 23rd in Victoria, BC.  It will take place at a covered outdoor picnic area in a park by Elk lake, directions to follow. There will be light refreshments and snacks provided, please come with your favorite memories of Bill. It is a casual gathering for friends and family as dad "didn't want anything formal". Please spread the word around. If you plan to attend could you please let me know at email: luke.warrener@gmail.com

If you have any questions, please reach out to myself or Mom at: deewarrener@gmail.com

Hope to see you all but we understand there are large distances between a lot of us, so lots of photos will be taken.  Our apologies to those who can't make this date (there were several conflicting factors and this is the best compromise we could make).  If anyone has something you would like read, please email Luke or Dee.

The picnic area is located off the Patricia Bay highway at the Elk/Beaver lake Eagle beach parking lot.
