Wolfgang Edwin 'Pitt' Linder

d. December 1, 2018

PITT Linder died peacefully in Victoria, BC at age 94. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Linder and the Gerald Smeltzer family of Victoria, BC and his son Alois Haenggi and stepdaughter, Lia Huerzeler-Ciccolunghi of Switzerland.
Pitt was born in Bern, Switzerland. He studied violin and later clarinet at the Bern Music Conservatory. But the tenor saxophone and American Jazz was his passion. His popular music orchestras and bands helped to introduce this music to Switzerland. In 1957, he became a recording artist, engineer and conductor for Swiss Basel Radio and recording artists for the Grammoclub Ex Libris. He later established Linder Electronic in Basel which specialized in PA systems for music performances (e.g. Montreux Jazz Festival) and sound systems for discos, churches and concert halls. In 1985, he created and installed the sound and lighting system for the Swiss pavilion at the World Expo in Tsukuba, Japan. After retirement in 1990, Pitt lived in USA, Switzerland and Canada. He particularly enjoyed his last 14 years in Victoria and the friends he made through the hiking groups he and Sheila belonged to.
Pitt's Celebration of Life will be held at the Victoria Conservatory of Music's Wood Recital Hall at 900 Johnson Street, on January 20 th at 2:30 pm. This is an informal gathering with music followed by a reception. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Pitt's life by sharing their memories.
