On November 18, 2012 Dr. Yam Jim Lee (Pui Yue) of Cordova Bay, Victoria, BC aged 82 died peacefully in Langley, BC. He was born in China, the eldest son of a large family. He left to pursue education in Taiwan at a young age. On scholarship he started his new Canadian life in Edmonton, studying forestry at the University of Alberta. There he met his wife Emily. They moved to Vancouver where he pursued a Ph.D. in Forestry at UBC, then upon graduation accepted a position as a Federal Forestry Research Scientist in Victoria. He worked at the Pacific Forest Research Centre for his entire career. He was one of the first forestry scientists to establish academic international relations with China, and was honoured as such many times. Jim was a strong advocate for his colleagues at the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada. He was known as the scientist who shrunk the Yukon by using more accurate landsat imagery and was the head of the 5th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with Anna, gardening, landscaping, walking the beach by his Cordova Bay home and spoiling his beloved grandkids. He is survived by his longtime companion Anna, son Emil, daughter-in-law Anita, two granddaughters, siblings Pui Kun, Pui Him, Pui Mun, Pui Shing and their families.
